Diabetes mellitus is serious health concern in India. Over three fourth of the population is affected by diabetes. This commonly occurs due to raise in blood glucose level termed as hyper glycaemia. Several factors are involved in the etiology of this disease like heredity, age, obesity, diet, sex, sedentary life style, socio economic status, hypertension. Oral hypoglycemic drugs are beneficial in treatment of diabetes to control blood glucose level .but the recent trend has changed to use of herbal drugs, edible fruits, essential oils and spices. Various literature revealed the use of natural products for management of type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Hence an effort was taken to compile the household herbal drugs in form of spices which exhibits anti diabetic activity.
