Abstract

Fish Fauna of the Lower Part of River Melet (Ordu, Turkey)

Fish samples were collected from River Melet between November 2004 and October 2005 and evaluated from the taxonomic point of view. Sampling were made in the river mouth where is between the Ordu Dam which is planning to build on River Melet and from the location where is offered for HES to the coast of the Black Sea. In this research, seven species were determined belonging to three families. Barbus tauricus (Kessler, 1877) (50 %) was dominant species and followed by the other species in turn Vimba vimba (Linnaeus, 1758) (14%), Capoeta banarescui (Turan, Kottelat, Ekmekçi & İmamoğlu, 2006) (14%), Neogobius kessleri (Günther, 1861) (9%), Neogobius fluviatilis (Pallas, 1814) (8 %), Leuciscus cephalus (Linnaeus, 1758) (4%) and Mugil cephalus (Linnaeus, 1758) (1%). Capoeta banarescui and Neogobius kessleri species are new records for Middle Black Sea Region.
