Abstract

Influence of Saliva on Structure, Mechanical Properties and Bacteria Adhesion of Cobalt-Chromium based Dental Alloy

Abu Bakr El-Bediwi and Samar El-Khaligy

Today cobalt-chromium based alloys are one of the most common and widely used in removable partial dentures, crowns, dentures, and orthodontic devices. In our knowledge no more available research covering the effects of normal saliva on structural and surface properties of dental materials, for this reason, this work deals with the effect of normal saliva on structure and surface properties of commercial Magnum H50, Co64Cr29 Mo6.5A0.5 (A=C, Si, Fe, Mn), alloy. Vickers hardness and roughness parameters of Co-Cr based alloy varied after aging in saliva for a different time which reflected their structure change. Candida spp. is stuck on Magnum H50 alloy surface after aging in normal saliva for 1, 4 and 6 weeks and their growth is increased with increasing aging time. The maximum growth of Candida spp. at 4 weeks.
