Three-dimensional (3D) printing technology is an emerging and flourishing technique which has a tremendous
potential to bring a paradigm shift in the pharmaceutical sector. Basically, 3D printing is a fabrication technique in
which automatically layer-by-layer materials are being deposited to create various design of choice. The primary
objective of this manuscript is to discuss modern methods, techniques, and current trends, polymers of choice and
recent applications of 3D printing technology applying in the pharmaceutical sector. Recently, the FDA has approved
3D printed tablet called Spritam, which brings a tremendous boost in the preparation of fabricated drug delivery
system and personalized medicine. In this review, special importance was given to highlight the challenges and
future perspectives of 3D printed technology in the pharmaceutical sector.
