Shivani S, Ansari SH, Zahiruddin S, Rabea Parveen and Ahmad S

Nyctanthe sarbor-tristis (Oleaceae) commonly known as night jasmine is a mythological plant with immense medicinal value in Ayurveda. The leaf juice is used to treat loss of appetite, liver disorders, biliary disorders chronic fever, malarial fever, obstinate sciatica and rheumatism. The present study was performed for establishing the quality standards of the leaves as per the WHO guidelines to confirm its purity and authentication. The various standardization parameters like macroscopy, microscopy, ash value, physicochemical and phytochemical screening, fluorescence analysis, bitterness value, foaming index, determination of pH, determination of fat and resin content, determination of pesticide residue and heavy metal analysis were performed to establish its quality standards. These observations will enable to standardize the botanical identification of the drug in its crude form. Data evolved in this investigation could be used in laying down Pharmacopoeial standards of the crude drugs, which further may be used as an important constituent in polyherbal formulation.
