Obesity represents one of the most serious global health issues and according to the World Health Organization there are an estimated 1 billion adults who are overweight (body mass index>25 kg/m2) and 300 million of these are considered clinically obese (body mass index>30 kg/m2). Taken for granted that this great threat imposes deleterious repercussions on the individuals’ outcome and affects negatively their quality of life, the underlying etiology of obesity has received a great deal of attention by the health science, over the last decades.
