Development in area of genetic engineering and application of those investigated techniques to plants and animals in last 20 years of 20th century, transgenic fish has become important. First genetically modified fish was reported in 1985. The transgenic study which was performed on fish has been focused on fast growth, improving diseases resistances and cold tolerances. It has been though that, although those genetic manipulations have brought some benefits such as fast growing, resistance to high and low temperature and good looking for ornamental fishes, it has carried some risks as contamination wild stocks by transferred genes and negative effect on human health. In this review gene transfer methods in fish and its benefits and risks were argued.
