Scientists affect and are affected by world events –positive or negative? forcing them to take action and make decisions by addressing these matters. Globalization, migration and minority issues, multiculturalism, wars and catastrophes, poverty as well as unexpected climatic changes are a few health related topics, which compel us to make a contribution through the provision of scientific knowledge and research, offering solutions to the issues our society is facing. As health professionals we cannot stand back and watch. We must take our place in the forefront proposing formalized procedures to increase efficiency and fairness in the handling of these issues, as well as setting scientific criteria and ethics for the development of policies and the monitoring of new and controversial scientific fields.

Due to the advancement of information technology, many renowned journals are nowadays at our fingertips through the widespread availability of the Internet. An addition to this list is the new Health Science Journal, aspiring to evolve into an influential and widely cited publication in the field of Health Sciences. The aims of this new Greek scientific web-journal are to present articles covering current issues in nursing, medicine and all the related health fields; report on the science and practice of these fields as well as their contribution to public policy. Another objective of the publication is to make a beneficial contribution towards the improvement of services whose purpose is to support and promote health. Furthermore, the scope of the journal is to provide a forum for the free exchange of ideas, promote innovative experimentation and research, as well as provide direction, inspiration, and vision for a better future.
With the belief that we are doing something useful, as Isocrates advised Demonikos “not to hesitate to take a long road leading to those who promise to teach something useful”, so we will devote our efforts to supplying quality articles and achieving a noteworthy presence on the Internet. Health Science Journal is a web quarterly publication handling empirical manuscripts and reviews, case studies and research articles, proposals and policy reports, as well as any other specialized topics on the health sciences.
It is our hope that this journal will achieve the high quality and status that will ensure it becomes a respected reference tool among health professionals and academicians.
It would be a serious omission if, at this point, we did not mention the important contribution of the President of Technological Educational Institution of Athens, Dr D. Ninos, to the Publication of this magazine.
All these years, D. Ninos has supported, not only financially but also morally, the publication as well as each effort which aims at the progress of education and knowledge. We must thank him for all these reasons.
