Commentary

Male infertility can be a frustrating and emotionally devastating condition. Defined as the inability to conceive a child despite frequent, unprotected sexual intercourse for up to one year, male infertility has many causes. Low sperm production, abnormal sperm function, blockages, problems with sexual intercourse, various illnesses, and other environmental factors can all lead to male infertility. Luckily, a variety of treatment options are available for men suffering from one of these conditions. Surgery, medications that assist sexual performance, hormone treatment, and assisted reproductive technology can all increase the chances of conception. Alternative medicine, such as herbal supplements, has also been shown to alleviate male infertility. Fertility M3 is an herbal remedy that has been found to help maintain male fertility through several actions. Pars Bioscience is pleased to be the first to make this novel remedy commercially available.

According to the Mayo Clinic, up to 15% of American couples are infertile, and approximately half of these are caused by male infertility. Many factors can disrupt the normal sexual functions of men. Medical problems such as varicoceles, sexually transmitted infections, retrograde ejaculation, cancer, hormone imbalances, physical trauma, and erectile dysfunction can all prevent male fertility. Several environmental factors and lifestyle choices can also contribute to male infertility; these include overexposure to industrial chemicals or radiation, excessive drug or alcohol use, and obesity [1].

Fortunately, most cases of male infertility are treatable. Depending on their specific cause of infertility, patients can undergo surgery or be given medications that enhance sexual performance. Assisted reproductive technology is another common treatment for infertile couples. While these treatment methods are most common, a less traditional option has also proven to be rather effective–herbal supplements. This form of alternative medicine has long been thought to increase male fertility, but it has yet to be fully implemented in modern treatment. Herbs do not act on a specific cause of infertility, but they are believed to increase sperm production and viability. Fertility M3, an herbal remedy recently developed by Pars Bioscience, has been clinically shown to promote male fertility through several actions (Figure 1).

Properties

FertilityM3 is an herbal remedy that consists of five Pharmacopoieal herbs. Studies carried out on this remedy for more than seven years indicated that FertilityM3 has multiple actions that help maintain male fertility.

Indications

FertilityM3 has been shown to achieve the following:

• Improve prostate gland secretions.

• Improve blood circulation to the male sexual organs.

• Increase the secretion of male sexual hormones.

Both the clinical and the laboratory studies performed on more than 500 male individuals, aged between 18-75 years, clearly showed that FertilityM3 is useful for the following:

• Males with low sexual desire.

• Enhancing sexual activity especially in males aged 50-70 years of age.

• Increasing the number of sperm.

Side effects: No side effects were recorded from individuals using FertilityM3. However, 5% to 6% of the cases indicated that there was an increase in urinary flow rate. Additionally, 3% of the cases experienced intestinal gases.

Contraindications: None reported so far.

Recommendations: For best results, we recommend that FertilityM3 be taken regularly for a period no less than three months.
