Introduction: Pediatric imaging technologists require outstanding competencies due to the challenges they face in their daily practice. Specifically, radiological imaging is a critical aspect in the diagnosis of diseases. The environment in pediatric imaging units can be very challenging for many technologists due to the irritability of children. For this reason, they require continued education that can increase their technical performance.
Purpose: The purpose of the study is to assess the benefits of continuing education of pediatric imaging technologists. Particularly, the study will determine whether continuing education can improve the technical performance of pediatric imaging technologists.
Method: The study will utilize a qualitative approach in determining whether continuing education can be beneficial to pediatric imaging technologists. The researcher will rely on purposive sampling to identify ten pediatric imaging technologists and schedule face-to-face interviews with them. The interviews will focus on the perceived benefits of continuing education or the registered benefits for the participants who are currently pursuing different courses. Through thematic analysis, the researcher will determine the highlighted benefits after the interviews.
Result: Continuing education can improve the technical performance of pediatric imaging technologists. Technologists who pursue continuing education gain advanced knowledge and skills that make them extremely competent in their work. Continuing education prepares them adequately for the handling of the challenging environment of pediatric imagines. The confidence of these technologists increases significantly after they pursue continuing their education.
Conclusion: Pediatric imaging technologists should embrace continuing their education as it can increase their competencies and performance. These technologists should identify the most beneficial course that will increase their performance.
