Femtosecond laser technology controversial in experienced anterior segment surgeons, however, it`s increased the procedure simplicity and security margins in formative stages. Femtosecond technology as a training resource allows: a teaching-learning process back to forward, starting with phaco/aspiration; a perfectly rounder capsulotomy that ensures excellent lenticular stability; lower use of energy during surgery in this stage of learning, constituting a kindly technique with the corneal endothelium; ensures self-sealing wounds and watertight anterior chamber during the surgery; more independence that reinforces self-esteem; it`s ideal in complicated cases; allows to hit the refractive target from the first stages of learning.
María Elena Vergara, MD, develops her activity in the Uruguayan Republic University since 2000. In 2009, she started working in Clinical Hospital of Montevideo, currently as an Associated Professor.
