The vascular wall's chronic inflammatory response is commonly regarded as atherosclerosis, and its complications contribute significantly to patient mortality. Patients with atherosclerotic disease frequently undergo an angioplasty with stent replacement. However, angioplasty patients typically experience a high rate of restenosis.
