Models of Companion Animal and Human Interventions by Translational Geroscience
Author(s): Matt Kaeberlein*
In order to optimise healthy, disease-free lifetime, translational gerosciencean interdisciplinary area developed from basic gerontology seeks to identify, validate, and clinically deploy therapies. In this review, we outline a research pipeline for the discovery and approval of therapies that increase lifespan. Interventions are first discovered in invertebrate model systems, followed by their characterization in additional invertebrate model systems, genetic diversity models, and disease models. Then, treatments in mammalian systems can be verified using vertebrate model systems, particularly mice. A crucial tool for evaluating the resilience of interventions i.. View More»
