Cholera: A Devastating Waterborne Disease

Cholera is an acute diarrheal disease caused by the
bacterium Vibrio cholerae. It is primarily transmitted
through the consumption of contaminated food and water,
leading to rapid and severe dehydration. Cholera has been a
major public health concern, particularly in regions with
inadequate sanitation and limited access to clean drinking
water. This abstract provides an overview of cholera,
including its epidemiology, clinical features, pathogenesis,
diagnosis, treatment and prevention strategies.
