Recent Advances in Coastal Finfish Aquaculture

With the introduction of the “blue revolution”, aquaculture has become one of
the most important growing sectors in the food production systems. Many new
developments have been made and are implicated in the aquaculture industry,
especially in the finfish department which contributes globally to around 42% of
the total fish production. This chapter summarizes the recent advancements and
improvements in the culture of four major coastal finfish species which are Asian
sea bass (Lates calcarifer); milkfish (Chanos chanos); grey mullet (Mugil cephalus);
pearl spot (Etroplus suratensis). It also gives an insight of how the fishes are cultured
in captivity starting with brood stock development, captive maturation, spawning
